Get on with it
Have you been doing things the same way for a long time? But it’s still not working the way you want?
There are probably a lot of problems to solve to make your business fully systemized. (Let’s call them “opportunities for improvement”).
Some of those opportunities are caused by weaknesses in your systems. Or it could be that there are systems that are missing and need to be built from scratch.
And then there are the “people” opportunities. I’m talking about the people on your team who act like a ball and chain because of their attitudes. Or the people who are resistant to changes that you want to make. Or the most difficult case, the person who says all the right things, but just doesn’t get results.
You don’t need that kind of negativity holding back the entire organization. You don’t have time for this.
And yet, they are still there, doing the same counterproductive things over and over. And you aren’t really dealing with it. If you were dealing with it, something would have changed by now.
So why doesn’t it change?
There’s a bunch of possible reasons, beginning with your leadership. But let’s ask a few very simple questions:
- Do they know what they are doing that is causing the problem? Unless you told them, how do you expect them to know?
- Have you provided clear and specific direction to correct the behavior?
- After setting clear expectations, have you given them a fair chance to change by holding them accountable?
Even if you do all the basic things right, sometimes it just doesn’t work. Ultimately, the responsibility of performance rests on their shoulders.
So if you have an uncomfortable decision to make, you’re not alone.
It’s up to you. So get on with it.
Because every day you wait, you are holding them back from finding a place where they will fit. But, they don’t fit on your team.
And every day you wait, you’re holding back everyone else and your business from growing. No one person should hold down the whole enterprise.
And every day you wait, the team is looking at you and wondering…why you aren’t taking action?
Systemizing your business is not just about repeatable processes and checklists. You need the right people to make the systems work, so you can get what you want – the freedom that comes with operational excellence.
